How the instalment is derived. Instalment = P × r × (1+r)n ÷ ((1+r)n − 1), where P is the principal, r is the monthly rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of instalments. Interest is computed on the reducing outstanding balance. A year is taken as 12 months, 52 weeks or 365 days.

Four Things Worth Checking First

Keep the EMI Under a Fifth

As a rule of thumb, all your loan instalments together should stay below about 20 to 25 per cent of household monthly income, leaving room for a bad week.

Shorter Tenure, Less Interest

A longer tenure lowers the monthly EMI but raises total interest sharply. Try both in the calculator above and compare the total repayable figure.

Compare the Total, Not the EMI

Two offers with the same EMI can differ by thousands in total cost. Always ask for the total amount repayable, in writing.

Get the Sanction Letter

Never accept a loan without written terms. Your sanction letter and loan card should state the rate, every fee, the EMI and the number of instalments.

Reducing vs Flat Rate

A flat rate of 12% can cost more than a reducing rate of 20%. Ours are reducing balance rates — confirm the basis before comparing with any other lender.

No Advance Payment

No genuine lender asks for a fee before sanction. If anyone demands cash in our name to "release" a loan, report it to us immediately.
